Gili Air, one of Indonesia’s paradises, located very close to Bali, virtually untouched and surrounded by turquoise and crystal clear waters, corals and relaxation wherever you go. We leave you with information on how to get to Gili Air from Bali, what to do, which hotel to choose and practical information that we packed in the suitcase of our trip to paradise.
The streets of Gili Air are not paved, there are no roads and motor vehicles are prohibited. There are hardly any stores and at night the lighting is very basic.
You will go back in time and feel like you are in a city that is still being built.
Indeed, this is so, as the first human settlements on Gili Air date back to the 1970s, when there was no fresh water on the island. Since there are no rivers and no means of collecting rainwater, it is brought in daily in barrels, like everything else that comes to the island.
During our days on Gili Air we saw a lot of construction work, so we can imagine that in a few years the island will be used much more.
In summary, it is a quiet, undeveloped island with hotels that offer tranquility and basic recreational activities to enjoy. A paradise to discover. We do not know if we should encourage you to do it…
