If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and good surf, this quiet town on the south coast of Lombok is the perfect place to base yourself. Kuta Lombok Accommodation for all tastes and pockets, the possibility of exploring the fantastic surrounding beaches during the day and enjoying the good restaurants around the town’s main street at sunset or having a drink in a local with live music. From there you can also make day trips to other parts of the island. Kuta is our favorite place to stay.
Today the easiest, fastest and sometimes cheapest way to get to Lombok is with one of the many daily flights connecting the two islands. Prices from 200,000 IDR (about €13) and less than half an hour of travel. AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air and Wings Air are the main airlines operating the Bali-Lombok route.
Public ferries
The cheapest but by far the slowest way to travel to Lombok is by public ferries leaving from Padang bai port and arriving at Lembar port. They sail 24 hours a day, but you never know exactly when the next one will sail (usually one every hour). You can buy the ticket directly at the port for around €2.5 if you travel without a vehicle and around €7 if you want to bring your own motorcycle. The duration of the journey can vary from 4/5 hours to the whole day. This is a good alternative only for travelers who are not in a hurry, but on a tight budget.
Fast boats Bali to Lombok (Gili Trawangan, Gili Air Bangsal, Gili Meno)
Also by sea, but a much faster option than the ferry are the fast boats that reach the north west coast of Lombok (Teluk Kode port) and depart from the ports of Serangan, Sanur and Padang Bai (all on the east coast of Bali). The trip lasts about two hours and the price of the ticket will depend on the company you choose, the place where you buy the ticket and even your ability to haggle. Although travel between accommodation and port is normally included, it is advisable to clarify all the conditions prior to payment to avoid surprises. From €40 round trip with travel included. Blue Water Express, Eka Jaya Fast Boat, Sindu Express Fast Boat or Scoot Fast Cruises are some of the companies that cover this tour. You can compare the prices and book the most convenient one on the bookaway website (search “from East Bali” to “Lombok”).
Own transport is undoubtedly the most comfortable and easiest way to get around the island. In addition to avoiding headaches and having total freedom, you will be able to reach places that would not be accessible otherwise. It is relatively easy to rent a car (with or without a driver) or rent a motorcycle in the main tourist places and even in the accommodations themselves. Car prices are around €40/day with a driver and €20 without a driver. Motorbikes can be found for approximately €3-4 per day.
For transfers from the port or airport you can previously agree on the pick-up service with the accommodation, or negotiate in person with a local driver. **Personal experience: in the northern port (where the fast-boats arrive) getting good prices is much more complicated than at the airport, so our recommendation is that in this case it is better to bring it already closed or prepare to sweat the fat drop negotiating. To give you an idea, these are the prices you can pay up to Kuta (but you know, negotiate!):
From the airport: 100,000-120,000IDR
From Lembar port (local ferry): 150,000-200,000IDR
From Bansgal port (fast boats): 250,000-350,000IDR
Kuta is the largest city in southern Lombok, it has 2 long and well-defined streets: One of them is Jalan Raya Kuta, which runs perpendicular to the sea and the other is Jalan Pariwisita Pantai Kuta, which runs parallel to the sea.
In these two streets we find everything, restaurants, warungs, supermarkets, travel “agencies”, exchange offices, ATMs, etc.
The best experiences in Kuta-Lombok
* Bathe and relax on its beaches with calm and transparent waters.
Mandalika beach in the town of Kuta itself, a beautiful beach with calm and clear waters. There is a promenade along it with hotel complexes, even so there were not many people when we were there. A large mangrove swamp caught my attention and for the rest, it does not lack the iconic swing of all the beaches.

Tanjun Aan beach. 5 km east of Kuta. Transparent waters, white sand and incredible views. Impressive! It also has a swing where you have to wait in line if you want to be photographed on it.
* Enjoy the sunsets. From Merese Hills, next to Tanjun Aan beach. To get there: from the beach car park, you have to go up a hill and come to an esplanade where there are seats carved in the shape of a grandstand.
* Relax with massages and yoga classes. Throughout Kuta there are several places where you can go in for a massage. At the Mana Yoga Retreat hotel, they have great Ayurveda massages at a very good price and yoga classes for 91,000 rupees.
* Eat healthy and delicious. If you like vegetarian food, in Kuta you will find many options and also a wide variety of delicious smoothies and natural fruit juices.
There are many options to eat in Kuta Lombok, for all prices and tastes. You can try the typical food of the area (Sasak) based on vegetables and rice in one of the restaurants that offer all kinds of food.
